Volunteering

Volunteering

Members of the public can volunteer as part of an Initial Response Team or as a Community volunteer, helping our communities respond to and recover quickly from emergency events. Auckland Council recognises the value of trained and dedicated volunteers, and is committed to providing a full and varied training and exercise programme throughout the year to enable them to carry out their duties when required.

Community Volunteers

Community Volunteers

Volunteers have good knowledge of the area in which they live, they are able to quickly gather information, assess the need for help and organise their communities to adopt a resilient attitude by preparing in advance for Civil Defence emergencies.

As a Community volunteer, you will be trained in a variety of welfare and recovery support roles and may be called upon before, during and after an emergency to assist Auckland Civil Defence, your community, and others. After completing an initial set of core training courses, Community volunteers attend a minimum of three training sessions per year and one exercise.
